I got to thinking about professions that deal with serving humanity in some way, such as the police, clergy, teachers, social workers, etc.
Those are professions that can really take their toll on a person due to the continual contact with emotionally charged situations. The police deal with keeping the criminal element in line, clergy and social workers deal with human frailty, and teachers deal with working in close contact with a large group of growing individuals who task their patience to the max. When people in these professions act unprofessionally, i.e. allow their emotions to overcome their good sense, it can create serious problems. Of course, anytime one's emotions hold sway in a detrimental way serious problems can arise.
Some contributors to the stress of these professions is being overworked, underpaid, and in some instances having little in the way of support mechanisms to diffuse escalating problems.
